-Simple Clothing Company is 8 years old. It is owned and operated by Vernon born and raised entrepreneur Mel Schmidt and Betsey Johnson (the shihtzu)
-Simple Clothing is all designed and handmade in house by Mel in Vernon BC....and we mean literally in her house !
-Simple Clothing is made mostly from deadstock. This helps to keep the material costs down and it is also an eco friendly practice. Mel commits to searching high and low utilizing Facebook marketplace, the community, estate sales, business closures, second hand stores etc.
-Simple Clothing also has an actual fully shoppable store in Mels home. It is available 7 days a week by appointment. Simply text Mel at 250-503-4898 to set up your own private shopping experience. You can even choose the music you want to listen to. And lastly, you can skip past having to stand in lines or hide from clingy sales people.
-Mel is a self taught clothing artist. Most designs are made entirely intuitive with no patterns. This free form expression allows her to fully immerse herself in her art and produces most of her favorite pieces
- Simple Clothing is all about inclusivity. We make garments for all genders, for all ages, for all sizes and yes, we have even made clothes for dogs !
-Simple Home is where all the magic happens. Mel's 3 story townhouse has a room for everything a girl could ask for. The basement is a beautiful Clothing Store for customers. The main floor is our work shop where the clothing is produced. She currently has one industrial sewing machine, 2 basic sewing machines, one serger, one cover hem and even a Cricut design workspace. The third floor is home to our photo studio and Mel+ Betsey's personal closets. That's right, Betsey has her own closet !
-Simple Clothing's esthetic is mainly oversized athleisure wear however, Mel doesn't like to be put in a box. If she's inspired to work with spandex or denim than she goes for it. The vibes are still simple.
-Mel loves to think of the threads as the bloodline to the clothing. She will very often use pink thread as pink is one of our signature colors and it makes the stitches stand out from the garment and we love that vibe.
-Simple Studio has mentored a small group of ladies here in the Okanagan. At this time, we have 24yr old Vernonite Therine in the house as Mel's new assistant. She comes to us with her own personal goth inspired style and has been sewing for years already ! Therine can also be found on our site modelling Simple clothing as well as our preloved collections.
-Want to take classes here at the Simple Home ? We are happy to arrange that and personalize classes specific to your needs. Prices can be given in the consultation
-Are you looking for a clothing designer to partner with for a photo shoot, fashion show, event etc ? We absolutely love helping out our community and staying connected so please reach out !
-Simple sells preloved clothing that we source ourselves. We do not take consignment at this time.
-If you are an Artist here in the Okanagan we also love partnering up for Collabarations. In the past we partnered with Artist and friend Sally at Furhouse. Presently we are collaborating with one of our famous local portrait painters to design something amazing for you this spring.
-Have a favorite top or pant that has seen better days but is no longer available in stores ? Reach out to Mel to see if she can remake it for you in the style you love but perhaps in a different fabric or size. Mel is always open to helping with a custom project
